Eulogy - Delfi Moyano
I sat down for quite some time thinking what I would say to you today and the more I though the less I knew what to say.
I thought of reading a passage of the Bible or a Psalm maybe, but in my experience I’ve always found this little passage my sister once gave me much more comforting…
The Room Next Door - by St. Augustine
Love never disappears for death is a non-event.
I have merely retired to the room next door.
You and I are the same; what we were for each other, we still are.
Speak to me as you always have, do not use a different tone, do not be sad.
Continue to laugh at what made us laugh.
Smile and think of me.
Life means what it has always meant.
The link is not severed.
Why should I be out of your soul if I am out of your sight?
I will wait for you, I am not here, but just on the other side of this path.
You see, all is well.

It’s very hard for me to put Sandra in words, because there simply aren’t any words to describe magnificence.
Sandra was not only a daughter, a sister, a wife, an aunt, a friend…she was a teacher. Because as a daughter, a sister, a wife, an aunt and a friend she taught us the joy of life, the importance of living every day to the fullest, the importance of the here and now. And so with a degree in kindness, a masters in strength of spirit and a PhD in perseverance…she graduated from life.
The say people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, in a twist of fate this person disappears from your life. And what we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or joy. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of happiness. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
I think Sandra was a reason, a season and a lifetime…for all of us…because she met needs we may have expressed, because she shared, grew and learnt with us and because she has taught us the most valuable lesson of all. And that is that adversity cannot put you down, that no matter rain or shine there is always something bigger or greater that makes us keep holding on. And when you think you have no more energy to carry on…that’s when she’ll be there, supporting us and sending her strength and love from up above. Death cannot and shall not tear Sandra from our hearts. Her love and her wisdom now live in each of us, through every word or every act of kindness.
I remember saying how lucky Hernan was for having found someone like Sandra. Today I’d like to say Hernan wasn’t the only lucky person in the family. Sandra will always remain a friend, a confident, a sister.
So thank you Sandra for being a part of my life. For being a reason, a season and a lifetime. |
